Some Background

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In March 2015, France won the right to host the event, the first time the country will host the tournament, and the third time a European nation will.

There are 24 teams qualified for the finals, which are divided into 4 pots. Here they are along with the team’s world standings leading up to the tournament:

After the qualifying round, top teams will go through to the Round of 16 for the knockout stages leading up to the final.

For the first time, the World Cup will be used by UEFA to qualify three teams for the 2020 Summer Olympic women’s football tournament in Japan, another reason to motivate the teams to go all the way to the final.

What happened at the 2015 World Cup?

The Women’s World Cup, like the FIFA World Cup, is held every four years, and the last one was held in Canada, where the United States women’s national team won the 2015 World Cup by beating Japan in the final.

Where and when will the tournament be played?

The opening match of the 2019 Women’s World Cup will be played at Parc des Princes in Paris on 7 June, when the group qualifying round will kick off with the host France facing South Korea.

The semi-finals will take place on 2 & 3 July and the final will be played on 7 July, and the 3 games will be played at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, a 60,000 capacity stadium in the outskirts of Lyon.
